BARNSTAPLE DEVONS sells bulls and females from Mt Isa to King Island (Bass Straight). We hold regular sales and sell cattle at other times through the year.

Devon cattle have many strong attributes, not the least is fertility. Of all traits associated with cattle breeding none has the capacity to improve profitability like high fertility.
Devons are used in pure herds and in cross breeding programs.

Cattle from BARNSTAPLE DEVONS are used to improve and increase:

• high quality meat
• efficient grazing of pasture and forage
• environmental tolerance to heat and cold

The Herd

BARNSTAPLE DEVONS can trace its history back to the middle 1800's. Successive studmasters have enriched the herd using classic line breeding principles but always with a dash of the best of outside genetics.

To ensure genetic progress from breeding programs, the herd undergoes stringent grading, constant assessment and regular measurement. All cattle (including bulls, females and steers) are weighed throughout their lives and scanned by ultrasound for (live) carcase characteristics. Data collected is used for grading and performance recording. Progress from all selection processes relies on our simple axiom:

"Breed the best with the best and cull the rest"
